Recent satellite imagery confirms that the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) aircraft carrier Shandong entered a purpose-built dry dock at Yulin Naval Base on Hainan Island in January.

最新卫星图像证实，中国人民解放军海军山东舰航空母舰于1月进入海南岛榆林海军基地的专用干船坞。

 

This marks the first occasion that a PLAN carrier has undergone maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) operations outside the northern Dalian shipyard.

这是首艘中国海军航母首次在大连北部船厂以外的区域完成维护、修理和大修（MRO）作业。

 

The development represents a significant evolution in China's carrier support infrastructure and operational posture in the South China Sea.

此次发展标志着中国在南海的舰载支援基础设施与作战态势方面实现了重大演进。

 

Janes analysis of a satellite image captured on 7 February shows Shandong in a 370 m dry dock with visible work on its flight deck, including the removal of deck markings and at least one flight deck section.

简氏周刊于2月7日拍摄的卫星图像分析显示，山东号航母停泊在370米长的干船坞中，飞行甲板可见施工痕迹，包括甲板标识清除及至少一处飞行甲板区域的作业。

 

Theis suggests that substantial maintenance work is under way on the 70,000 tonne carrier, which has been homeported at Yulin since its commissioning in December 2019.

这表明这艘7万吨级的航空母舰正在进行大规模维护工作，该船自2019年12月投入使用以来一直以玉林为母港。

 

The utilisation of Yulin's carrier-capable dry dock facility, which became operational in 2022 after construction began in 2017, marks a departure from the norm with regard to the PLAN's carrier maintenance.

玉林具备航母作业能力的干船坞设施自2017年开工建造、2022年投入使用以来，标志着中国人民解放军海军航母维护模式的突破性转变。

 

Till January 2026, Shandong and its predecessor, Liaoning, conducted all major maintenance periods at the Dalian Shipbuilding facility in Liaoning province.

截至2026年1月，山东及其前身辽宁均在辽宁省大连造船厂完成所有重要维修周期。

 

Shandong previously returned to Dalian in March 2022 for its first scheduled maintenance period following commissioning, a procedure that took several months and included flight deck resurfacing and systems upgrades.

山东舰于2022年3月首次返航大连进行入役后的首次定期维护，该程序耗时数月，包括飞行甲板重新铺设及系统升级。
