The JJ-5 is the two-seat trainer variant of the Shenyang J-5A subsonic jet fighter, which is a Chinese copy of the MiG-17 Fresco. Despite its ageing design, the JJ-5 is still flying with PLAAF flight schools for jet aircraft transit training before the pilot can fly on more advanced fighter-trainer.JJ-5是沈阳J-5A亚音速战斗机的双座教练型,J-5A是米格-17“壁画”的一种中国仿造型。尽管它陈旧的设计,JJ-5仍然在PLAAF航校飞行,在飞行员能在更先进的战斗-教练机上飞行之前用于喷气飞机过渡训练。
The JianJiao-5 (JJ-5) developed by Chengdu Aircraft Factory (now Chengdu Aircraft Industry Co., CAC) is the two-seat fighter-trainer variant of the Shenyang J-5A (MiG-17 Fresco) subsonic jet fighter. First flying in 1966, the aircraft is still operated by the PLAAF flight schools for basic jet pilot training. The remaining JJ-5s in the PLAAF have been gradually replaced by the more capable JL-8 basic jet trainer.
由成都飞机厂(现在成都飞机工业公司,CAC)发展的“歼教”(JianJiao)-5(JJ-5)是沈阳J-5A(米格-17 “壁画”(Fresco))亚音速战斗机的双座战斗-教练型。在1966年首次飞行,飞机仍然为初级驾驶员训练被PLAAF航校一直操作。剩余的JJ-5在PLAAF中已经逐渐地被更有能力的JL-8初级喷气教练机代替。
PROGRAMME
Following the successful development of the J-5 fighter, a Chinese copy of the Soviet MiG-17 Fresco, the newly founded Chengdu Aircraft Factory began to develop the two-seat variant JJ-5 to replace the PLAAF’s Soviet-made MiG-15UTI Midget fighter-trainer for jet fighter pilot training. The maiden flight of the JJ-5 took place on 8 May 1966, and the aircraft entered service with the PLAAF in December 1966. A total of 974 examples were built before the production stopped in 1983. The aircraft is operated by the PLA Air Force (PLAAF), PLA Naval Air Force (PLANAF), as well as some third-world countries.

A total of 974 JJ-5 trainers were built before the production stopped in 1983. Its users include the PLAAF, PLANAF and air forces of some third-world country air forces.生产在1983年停止之前,JJ-5教练机制造总数为974架。它的使用者包括PLAAF、PLANAF和一些第三-世界国家空军。
While the J-5 series fighters had completely retired from active service in the 1990s, the JJ-5 remained in service for basic jet training in flight schools. Upon completing all training subjects on the CJ-6 basic trainer, a student pilot will fly on the JJ-5 to received basic jet flight training before being assigned to operational units for advanced training on the JJ-6 or JJ-7 fighter-trainer.

The JJ-5 is based on the design of the J-5A all-weather fighter with some minor modifications to accommodate the additional seat. The aircraft is equipped with compass, radio beacons, and altimeters, and is capable of instrumental landing in all-day/night, weather conditions. The aircraft could also be used for other purposes such as observation, artillery spot, and reconnaissance.
JJ-5以J-5A全天候战斗机的设计为基础,采用一些较小的修改去容纳增加的座位。飞机装备罗盘、无线电信标和高度计,而且在全昼-夜天气状况能够仪表降落。飞机也可以用于其它用途,像是监视、炮兵观测和侦察。
WEAPONS
The JJ-5 is fitted with a under-nose Type 23-I 23mm cannon with 40 rounds. The aircraft also has two under-wing pylons to carry 400 litre drop tanks or 250kg free-fall bombs.
