A mysterious special mission aircraft based on the Y-8F-600 (Category-III platform) has been identified during its flight test. The aircraft features two large fairings fitted on both sides of the fuselage right behind the cockpit. Unconfirmed report suggested that these fairings may accommodate a newly developed radar system for ground surveillance or airborne early warning role. The aircraft also has several smaller fairings presumably also housing electronic equipments. The exact status of the aircraft is unknown.
