The Type 625C oceanographic survey ships were built by Shanghai-based Hudong Shipyard (now Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard) in the late 1970s, with a total four hulls launched. The ship was used for both military and civil purposes.

中国625型海洋调查船在1970年后期由位于上海的沪东（Hudong）造船厂（现在沪东－中华（Zhonghua）造船厂）建造，并且总共下水四艘。船只用于军事、民用用途。

The PLA Navy signed an agreement with Hudong to build two Type 625C ships in March 1979. The design proposal was submitted and approved in January 1980. Hudong began the construction of the two hulls in September 1980. The first hull Haiyang 11 was launched in June 1981, followed by the second hull Haiyang 12 in July. Both ships were commissioned by the South Sea Fleet of the PLA Navy in November 1981.

PLA海军与沪东船厂签署协议在1979年3月建造二艘625C型船。在1980年1月提交设计方案并批准。沪东在1980年9月开始了这二艘船只的建造。第一艘海洋（Haiyang） 11号在1981年6月下水，接着在7月第二艘海洋 12号。两艘船在1981年11月在PLA海军的南海舰队服役。

The two Type 625C ships were operated by the 1st Oceanographic Survey Group of the South Sea Fleet under the cover name of 2nd Oceanographic Survey Group of the Chinese Ministry of Geology and Mineral Resources. The two ship were operating in the South China Sea region for oceanographic survey and research roles. Their operations included survey activities near the east coast of Philippine and collection of hydrological data near the Spratly Islands to be used by Chinese navy submarines. One of the ship is now known as Nandiao 411.

两艘625型以中国地质矿产部第二海洋调查队的名义由南海舰队第一海洋调查队操作。这二艘船用于海洋调查和研究任务在南海区域活动。活动包括在靠近菲律宾东海岸测量活动和收集南沙群岛附近的水文数据去用于中国海军潜艇。船只之一现在即是南调（Nandiao） 411号。

Hudong also built two Type 625C ships for the China Academy of Science (CAS) in the early 1980s. Construction of the first hull Kexue 1 began in December 1979, and the ship was launched in January 1981. The ship has been serving with CAS’s Institute Oceanology at Qingdao. The second hull Shijian 3 has been operated by CAS’s South China Sea Institute of Oceanology (SCSIO) at Guangzhou.

沪东船厂也在1980年早期为中国科学院（CAS）建造二艘625型。第一艘科学（Kexue） 1号的建造在1979年12月开始，并且船只在1981年1月下水。船只一直在青岛中国科学院海洋研究所服务。第二艘实践（Shijian） 3号已经在广州中国科学院南海海洋研究所（SCSIO）操作。
